Code Enforcement Officer
The Code Enforcement Officer handles property complaints, plan reviews and issues building permits. The office is responsible for new construction, including site plan development of both commercial and residential properties.
In Ambler Borough, persons moving into a new commercial or residential dwelling must obtain a certificate of occupancy. This is done to ensure public safety and for the municipality's planning goals. For more information on obtaining certificate of occupancy or other permit information, contact the Code Enforcement Officer.

Permits are required for the following:
- For all signs
- Fences
- Occupancy of a building - Permits are required for each new occupant or tenant of a structure except for one and two family owner occupied. It is the property owner's responsibility to obtain a U&O where occupancy changes ownership of the building or business changes.
- Installation of furnaces, air conditioners, accessory buildings
- Additions or remodeling other than non-structural repairs
- Alarm systems, Home - based businesses
- Solicitation - All solicitors must have permits with proper identification.
- Swimming pools - Permits are required for construction of pools in and above the ground. They must be fenced.
- Before starting any construction, contact the Code Enforcement Office.
- Annual licenses are required for all eating and drinking establishments.

To serve residents and meet the Borough's growth potential, the hours of the Zoning and Code Enforcement Office are 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. – Tuesday and Thursday. 215-646-1000 x 112. Call for an appointment.
Handicap Parking Sign Permits for residential parking are administered through the Ambler Police Department.
Zoning Hearing Board
The Zoning Hearing Board hears appeals of the zoning officers decision, requests for variances and special exceptions. Ambler Borough has a 3 member Zoning Hearing Board. The board meets at 4:30 pm on the third Wednesday of each month in the council chambers. A zoning map can be found under Documents & Forms
Planning Commission
Ambler Borough has a 9 member Planning Commission. They meet at 7:30 pm on the last Tuesday of each month (except November and December) in the Council Chambers. The Planning Commission reviews subdivision and land development applications, special exception and variance applications, projecting signs and ordinance revisions.
Health Officer
The Montgomery County Health Department assumed the duties and responsibilities previously assigned to the Borough’s Health Officer. For more information or to file a complaint call 610-278-5117.
